The SILVAS Family

Mexico, Arizona, Oregon

    Of the SILVAS family, we know very little. According to Mary Ruth (Vincent) CRUMP, granddaughter of our subjects, they were of Cherokee origin, and the line had fled to Mexico during the Trail of Tears. Whether this is true or not is difficult to ascertain, but we do know that they lived, at least for a brief time, in San Pedro Mexico. Perhaps the parish registers of the church there might hold further records.

First Generation

1. Lauro SILVAS(1) was born in Mexico.(1,2,3) He married Florenza ROMERO,(1) also born in Mexico.(1,2,3) They were both Spanish speakers.(2,3)

They had the following children (more are likely):
2   i. Paz. (24 Jan 1887 in San Pedro Mexico - 6 Nov 1943 in Coquille, Coos Co., Oregon). Married Charles VINCENT (13 Mar 1872-23 Dec 1958) abt 1904.
    ii. Quirena. Born abt 1897 in Mexico. Immigrated in 1919 to The United States. Resided in Swansea, Yuma Co., Arizona, in 1920, where she was a School Teacher.(2)
    iii. Loretto (though this name is difficult to read in documents). Born abt 1900 in Mexico.Immigrated in 1920 to The United States. Resided in Yuma Co., Arizona, in Jan 1920, where he worked as a laborer in a copper mine. Loretto. Resided in Coquille, Oregon, in 1930, where he worked as a laborer doing Railroad Construction.(2,3)
    iv. Gertrude. Born abt 1902 in Mexico. Immigrated in 1929 to The United States. Resided in Coquille, Oregon, in 1930.(3)
